Audio of Monroe Council meetings now available online
I don’t know how I missed this…the audio for Monroe City Council meetings are now available online.
After many, many months of prodding and pushing…then pushing some more…we are finally getting somewhere. Unfortunately the recordings are not very good quality and you can’t hear most speakers. But at least we’re trying, right?
I don’t think the top notch equipment (like Granicus) for video has been budgeted, so City staff deserves a big thank you for doing this much.
The next step for the Council is to make all their email communications public by using a bulletin board or blog of some sort. So much has been made of “hidden” council emails in the past that the only way to be transparent and eliminate the argument from those who cast aspersions is to go ahead and make them public.
The one exception, of course, are any emails or communications that are confidential (relating to the purcahase and sale of property or litigation) where the release of the information would harm the taxpayers. When this happens, the goals I set forth a year ago in the Open Government Ordinance will be well on their way to becoming reality.

I’m not sure if you know this, but the audio is really bad. I can’t hear most of the discussion. I am not as kind as you, Chad. I think results should be rewarded, not effort. These results aren’t useful, so they are nothing to be proud of.

I know. I’m not sure what the problem is. I’ll shoot an email over to City Hall and find out if something can be done to improve audio.

Yeah, the audio is pretty bad. I can’t hear anything. What good is it to have audio online if you can’t hear anything?
