Governor in Monroe; Walsers on TV
Here is a great news clip from KIRO tv about the Governor’s visit yesterday.
The mayor said at the Council meeting last night that some good progress was made with the Governor’s office on safety improvements on US2. Nearly 80 people have been killed on US2 since 1993. I was personally involved in one of those accidents and can say the issue goes beyond the politics that seems to stymie any progress.
The mayor and her husband deserve a great big “THANK YOU” for their years of hard work on the issue of US2 safety. If you get the chance, drop the mayor a note and tell her you appreciate her efforts. It’s too easy for grattitude to go unspoken, and we develop expectations rather than appreciation. Mayor Donnetta Walser’s email is: dwalser@ci.monroe.wa.us.
(updated 9/13) Here is a synopsis from Loretta Storm on the day’s events.
And here is a great editorial from the Seattle Times.

Something that Polly O’Keary (the reporter from the Monroe Monitor) mentioned to me today was that Governor Gregoire promised this week to work for state bonding for our projects. That would be huge, since it would allow us to build both phases of the US2 bypass if the voters approve the Roads & Transit package this fall.
That means traffic from 522 would go north of town, and would bypass completely around Monroe, taking any Sultan, Gold Bar and Stevens Pass traffic completely off US2 and Main Street. Can I get an “Amen!”???
